Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge assessments such as understanding recorded texts, understanding live texts, and research projects

  • Practical skills assessments such as producing and delivering Auslan text, and participating in Auslan exchanges

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSW Government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

  • Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process. Payment plans are available through TAFE NSW for Smart and Skilled eligible qualifications.

  • To successfully complete this course, you will need:

    • to have completed the Certificate 2 and/or units PSPLAN001, PSPLAN002 and PSPLAN003. If you have not completed these already,then you will need to complete the the Certificate 2 first. You will need to attend all scheduled classes and complete all course work, activities and online requirements.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Auslan qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 6 Units of competency, including 6 core and 0 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Converse in Auslan at a basic user level PSPLAN001

  • Compare the fundamental differences between Auslan and English structure PSPLAN002

  • Source information on Deaf culture, and communicate according to Deaf protocol PSPLAN003

  • Converse in Auslan at an independent user level (familiar subjects) PSPLAN004

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.
