This hands-on practical course will focus on skills in glaze testing and making along with kiln firing. The programme is tailored to individual workshop needs from beginner to advanced level. Theory lectures include basic glaze and firing technologies, glaze testing methodologies, glaze application, colour theory and glaze fault resolution. Participants will work with their own choice of clay body and firing range. Instruction on Kiln management, programming procedures and firing cycles will be given. Kilns will be fired between each session.

You will refine technical and conceptual skills through a process of experimentation and practice. Teachers will demonstrate a wide range of specific techniques and skills so that you can further develop with clay. This course can be extended into a full year program as a series of four payment terms to give a full range of basic ceramics skills. On completion of the full year, students may articulate into the Diploma of Ceramics.

This program provides access to studios and facilities so you can improve your skills by developing your own work. The studios and facilities are under the supervision of a skilled TAFE teacher who can provide tutorial assistance.

This is a self-paced professional development course for artists or art course graduates who want to their develop skills. Artists in residence will have access to the Visual Arts facilities (art studios) available in the Art and Design section of TAFE NSW where they can interact and communicate with staff and fellow Artists in residence. There will also be opportunities to attend studio classes with no assessment requirements. Artists in residence are responsible for providing their own personal protective equipment (PPE), covered footwear and art materials.

No formal classes are held but an individual tutorial service is provided by the teacher. The Visual Art Foundation Folio support students with observational drawing skills and basic skills with Arts Language. Student will learn to work with still life and other themes to build an understanding and application of art elements such as line, shape, colour, texture and form. Students will also develop an understanding of composition and the Principles of Art such as Balance, contrast, movement and rhythm. The course is aim at student who want to build or extend a folio and is suitable for anyone wanting to apply for the Diploma of Visual Arts or Diploma of Ceramics courses.
