The Statement of Attainment in Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting is a common employment requirement in the industry and gives you an essential skillset so the children in your care have the best chance at staying safe. Learn emergency response techniques including CPR.
LEARN NEW SKILLS
Through a mix of theory and practical coursework, learn to:
- Identify signs and symptoms of acute illness in children and infants
- Activate emergency action plans for known medical conditions including asthma and anaphylaxis
- Manage 25 different illnesses and injuries from dehydration, vomiting and diarrhoea to poisoning, fracture, choking and burns
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Respond to emergency situations
- Use first aid equipment
- Maintain privacy, consent and confidentiality protocols
- Follow codes of practice and workplace procedures

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
- Physical ability to kneel on the floor to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles) on an adult manikin placed on the floor.
LICENSING
Holding a current first aid certificate is a mandatory requirement for early childhood services under the national regulations. Check with your employer to find out what you require.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community and specific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit for you, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.
To be able to successfully complete this course, you will need:
- Access to a computer and internet for some research activities and completion of quiz assessments. You will require a reliable internet connection.
- You need to be reasonably, physically fit to undertake the First Aid practical assessment which requires students to be physically able to perform CPR on the floor for a period of six (6) minutes, in multiple scenarios. You will also need to be capable of moving around on the floor to perform scenario assessments in small teams, including bandaging and operating an AED (Automatic Emergency Defibrillator).
It is recommended that you complete this course within 1 week including the practical session. You have a 6 month period from your enrolment to book in for your practical session. It is a requirement that the quizzes are completed prior to your attendance at the practical session.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is a variable, combination course. You must attend approximately 8 hours of class. You may also be required to complete approximately 14 hours of additional study. This additional study could include private study, work placements and research.
The course will run 1 days a week for 1 week.
