Assessments

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you have:

    • Confirmation of work placement prior to enrolment. An example of work placement evidence is a signed letter from a horse breeding stud.
  • Students who are unable to provide evidence of work placement will not be allowed to enrol into the course.

  • Each student’s workplace on-the-job learning is managed by the workplace supervisor in collaboration with the TAFE NSW teacher. The workplace supervisor is required to:

    • provide the student regular access to supervision. Supervision is to be provided to maximise the student’s learning in the workplace.
    • provide the student with adequate workplace resources and access to equipment for on-the-job learning
    • communicate with the TAFE NSW teacher on the student’s progress in the workplace.
    • verify recorded workplace hours and workplace activities in the Training Log Book.
    • ensure the student’s progress is in line with the student’s Individual Training Plan and the Training Log Book.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Horse Breeding qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 3 core and 12 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Combination study

Learn through a combination of classroom based, online and/or workplace activity. For example, you may participate in scheduled classroom activity, have an element of self-directed learning with online content, and/or receive supervised training while on the job, doing work experience, or on placement.

Classroom activity will be scheduled, but online learning can provide more flexibility. Teacher support will be provided for all study. Access to a computer with an internet connection is required.

Scone

TAFE NSW Scone is located in the upper Hunter Valley in Scone, a town known as the horse capital of Australia. Conveniently situated next to the racecourse and the Equine Research Centre, TAFE NSW Scone features state-of-the-art stables, a riding area, and farrier’s workshop. Also located on site is Hunter Local Land Services, who provide local landholders with greater access to services and advice in agricultural production, natural resource management, biosecurity and emergency management.
