Work placement

Materials needed

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to purchase specialist equipment in order to develop your skills outside of scheduled class times prior to starting class. Detailed Student Equipment Lists will be provided at the orientation session or first day of class, along with suggested industry suppliers. The cost for specialist equipment for this course is approx. $400.00 which you will retain on completion of your training.

  • Students are also required to wear closed in protective footwear and plain black pants or black skirt below the knee. You will need to purchase a uniform at $30.00 from TAFE NSW Teaching Section.

  • To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence that you are:

    • signed up with an Apprentice Network Provider and have a Training Plan Proposal
    • seeking to gain skills and knowledge to become a qualified Barber after successful completion

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Barbering qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 26 units of competency, including 21 core and 5 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
