Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • There is no work placement requirement for this qualification. As an apprentice, you will gain your experience on-the-job with your employer.

  • If you are enrolling as a non-apprentice, you need to be in relevant employment or have access to appropriate simulated workplace environments in order to meet the course completion requirements.

To complete this course, the following materials are required:

  • You will need to provide for yourself the following resources which you will keep when you complete your study:

    • Non-tinted safety glasses - approximately $8.00
    • Stationery (including a scientific calculator) approximately $35
    • Solder free prototyping breadboard approximately $20.00.

  • To take this course as an apprenticeship you need to be employed as an apprentice in the industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer and

  • Submit your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application

  • This course offering is designed for people who :

    • are non - apprentices, who wish to gain knowledge and experience in examination of and testing machines, equipment, instruments, and electronic control and monitoring systems to diagnose faults. Participants will use their knowledge of digital and analogue Electronics to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, upgrade, program and repurpose equipment in many industrial, commercial and consumer settings.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Electronics and Communications qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 1060 weighting points, including 680 core and 380 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
