To successfully complete this course, you will need access to a real industry workplace with appropriate facilities to carry out micro-chipping. Students require:
Students must have an arrangement with a registered veterinary practitioner who is able to supervise the student’s practical components of the course. The registered veterinary practitioner must also be an Authorised Identifier / authorised implanter. These practical components can be conducted in a veterinary practice, local council, animal welfare organisation, or similar premises.
The TAFE NSW teacher must observe the microchip implantation of at least 1 live conscious dog and 1 live conscious cat – this can be through submission of video evidence by the student, or through direct physical observation by the TAFE NSW teacher during workplace visits. For the remaining animals that are microchip implanted, the TAFE NSW teacher must check and verify with the workplace supervising veterinarian that the microchip implantation records in the student’s Skills Log book are accurate – this can be done via phone, email or at the workplace location.
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Statement of Attainment in Implant Microchip in Cats and Dogs qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 1 units of competency, including 1 core and 0 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
Choose when and where you study. Set your own pace, with all your study materials online, allowing you to manage your own workload. Access your learning management system 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is a highly collaborative space that involves more than simply reading and consuming.
You will interact creatively with content, teachers and your peers, improving your overall engagement with the course. Teaching staff are available to provide you with support, enabling you meet your course outcomes.
You may need to attend a vocational placement, on campus assessment and/or a teacher might need to observe and assess you in a real or simulated environment. Online courses require access to a computer with an internet connection.
