Learning outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Design and create two final headwear pieces as wearable art
    Prepare hat blocks by adjusting the shape or head size and adding a protective covering
    Perform techniques such as hand sewing, blocking and shaping wire
    Attach a crown and brim together and add finishes to your headpieces
    Find effective design solutions based on research, testing and reflection

Entry requirements

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

  • Millinery experience or costume experience, as evidenced by a copy of your transcript, certificate or receipt for a millinery or costume course

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • An interest in millinery
    A keen interest in theatrical costumery
    Experience handling sewing tools and equipment
    Patience and attention to detail
