Entry requirements

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

  • That you are employed in the civil construction industry and have a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, as evidenced by a letter from your employer

  • The ability to access at least 300 hours of relevant experience in your current workplace throughout the duration of your course, as evidenced by a letter from your employer

  • That you hold a valid general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card), as evidenced by providing a copy of your white card

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Intermediate computer skills for emails and computer use

  • Maths skills to determine volumes, areas and weights

  • The ability to read drawings, specifications and longer reports such as environmental, safety and quality reports

  • An understanding of workplace policies such as codes of conduct

  • Experience developing toolbox talks in the industry

  • The ability to work well as part of a team

  • Exposure to risk and hazard assessments on a construction site

  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 12 high school level

  • TAFE NSW may ask you to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test.

  • This skills test helps us to understand your individual study needs, to design an individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course.

Licensing

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Civil Construction (Operations) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 12 Units of competency, including 5 core and 7 speciality units.
