Learning outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Use skin therapy techniques including intense pulsed light (IPL)

  • Use laser skin treatment devices, LED light therapy, skin needling and microdermabrasion

  • Perform superficial peeling treatments to improve the appearance of skin conditions including skin texture, acne and pigmentation

  • Explore the development of skin concerns

  • Provide pre and post-treatment recommendations, including lifestyle and nutritional advice

Entry requirements

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

  • Successful completion of the following units (or their equivalent) as evidenced by a copy of your transcript: SHBBFAS005 Provide facial treatments and skin care recommendations or SHBBFAS002 Provide facial treatments and skin care recommendations; SHBBFAS006 Provide specialised facial treatments or SHBBFAS003 Provide specialised facial treatments; SHBBINF002 Maintain infection control standards or HLTINF005 Maintain infection prevention for skin penetration treatments; SHBBSSC001 Incorporate knowledge of skin structure and functions into beauty therapy; SHBBSSC002 Incorporate knowledge of body structures and functions into beauty therapy or

  • Industry experience as evidenced by a copy of your resume

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Advanced Diploma of Skin Therapy qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 10 core and 5 speciality units.

Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
