A group of high school students in the New England area has built a
viewing balcony at Tamworth's Marsupial Park as part of their TVET studies.
The nine students hail from four different high schools across the
region and made use of building materials that were left over from
recent construction of the Tamworth Playground. The hands-on project
was part of their TVET course. This means they are assessed on the
work and it counts as part of their HSC.
"It's been challenging. Some parts of the build have been
difficult, but they had fun and it's all part of their work
placement," Grand Bowden, TAFE construction head teacher told
the Northern Daily Leader. "It's a win-win for the
community, and the TAFE students in their partnership with the Friends
of the Marsupial Park."The timber decking was completed on Friday
11 November after a two-week build. It allows visitors to the
Marsupial Park to get a closer look at the park's many sights,
especially the popular koalas that like to nestle up in some of the
trees' loftier branches.
