There are many professions that deal with people who have mental health or alcohol and other drug issues. These can include social workers, medical practitioners, outreach workers and family and community services employees.

Dealing with clients with mental health or alcohol and other drug issues can be confronting if you don't have the proper background training. The underlying causes of these issues are often complex and difficult to understand and these clients can sometimes present with very challenging behaviours.

If you're already working in the community services sector or another related industry and want to upgrade your skills, then TAFE NSW Online's Introductory Mental Health and AOD Statement of Attainment is for you.

In this course you'll further develop the skills you use relating to people with mental health, alcohol and other drug issues. You'll develop a greater capacity to refer clients to the most appropriate services for their particular needs. And you'll gain a better understanding of the community services system overall.

This is an 18-week online course, with a recommendation for approximately eight hours per week. The skills you learn in this course will benefit you in a wide array of different roles.
