TAFE NSW Orange business student, Juliet Warrender, is proof that language, culture and age are no barriers to learning.

The 54-year-old Filipino woman, who now calls Orange home, is currently completing a Certificate III in Business Administration at TAFE NSW Orange, and is described by her teachers as one of the ‘most enthusiastic and skilful students in the class’.

Juliet hopes to cash in on the booming business administration industry, with Australian Government research revealing that more than 182,000 new general clerk/administration positions will become available across the country until 2023.

“Business is the field that I always wanted to be in. By studying at TAFE NSW, it opens a lot of doors to enable me to gain the practical skills and knowledge required to get into this field of work,” she said.

“At TAFE NSW I learn new skills every day, including typing, writing business letters, saving and filing documents, making brochures, customer service skills and lots more.

“Undertaking this training at TAFE NSW has helped me significantly improve my communication skills which has also boosted my self-confidence.

“I really enjoy the diversity that TAFE NSW offers, which includes embracing different cultures and perspectives.”

TAFE NSW Business Teacher Catherine Wright said, “Juliet started at TAFE NSW Orange in early 2019 where she completed a Certificate II in Business before rolling into the Certificate III in Business Administration,” Ms Wright said.

“Juliet is a very capable student who shines with enthusiasm. Her work ethic is very strong and she is a great role model for other learners in the classroom.”

Fellow TAFE NSW Business teacher Rebecca Simons added, “Juliet has traditionally worked in hospitality and providing customer service - so learning computer applications has been a massive achievement for her.

“Age has not been a barrier to Juliet - she flourishes from her connection with her colleagues and is always willing to go the extra mile to assist them when she can.”
