TAFE NSW Teacher’s twist on bridal hairstyling wins big

A TAFE NSW Meadowbank Hairdressing Teacher was recognised for her elegant and creative hairstyling skills at a prestigious industry awards event last week.

Taking out first place in the Bridal Hairstylist Category at the Western Sydney and Blue Mountains Brides Choice Awards, an ecstatic Suzanah Twist said, “I’m thrilled to have been named the number one bridal hair stylist at such a prestigious event. My business specialises in bridal, formal and special events hair styling, so to be recognised for it is truly humbling.”

Held on Tuesday, 21 May in Parramatta, the awards brought together the bridal industry’s finest vendors, with brides voting for the winning entries.

“Being chosen by the brides themselves makes this achievement so much more special. At the end of the day, they are the people who need to love your work, so to know that they like what I’m doing and the work that I am producing makes me feel very appreciated,” Ms Twist said.

With over 19 years of experience in the hair and beauty industry, Ms Twist has worked across numerous high profile events, including The Voice Australia, Project Runway, Myer Fashion Week and MBFWA.

Throughout her time in the industry, Ms Twist has witnessed and worked with ever-changing trends, a skill which she has been able to pass onto up-and-coming hairdressers studying at TAFE NSW Meadowbank.

“I joined TAFE NSW Meadowbank as a Hairdressing Teacher in 2016 and I absolutely love it. Teaching the students new skills and watching them grow and evolve into better hairdressers is such a rewarding experience,” Ms Twist said.

“My favourite classes are when I get to work with students on complex upstyles, teaching them how to create unique and custom looks for a bride and bridal party, that will really help them shine on the big day.”
